Everyone selling mineral skincare is selling mud. This is what is left after you remove the mud.
A mud mask works by sitting on skin and drying out. That is a physical effect, and it stops the moment you rinse. The research behind Pell Amar set out to solve a different problem: how do you separate the active fraction of lake sediment from the clay and grit carrying it?
The answer was atomization. Sediment from Balta Albă, a saline lake in eastern Romania, is drawn into solution and separated from clay, sand and inert material. The concentrate is then spray-dried into a fine, stable powder. That step is what turns a spa material into something that can be formulated into a leave-on cream.

Dr. Ștefan Ionescu-Călinești filed the method on 17 April 1975, with the chemist Ioan Pop and the engineers Gheorghe Ceacovschi and Constantin Lupu. It was granted as patent 66960 on 25 March 1978 by the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks of Romania.
Two further patents followed, both cosmetic formulations built on the same extract and developed with the Miraj cosmetics works in Bucharest — 64547, granted in April 1977, and 65073, granted in May 1977. The products were sold under the Pell Amar name, described on their own packaging as beauty products of original Romanian design.
His signature appears in copper foil on every jar we make.
Composition
The extract carries silicon, zinc, manganese, molybdenum, copper, boron, selenium and iron, alongside amino acids, humic and fulvic acids. On an ingredient list it appears as Peat Extract.
Why two products and not forty
One active, formulated two ways. The Day Cream is light and absorbs quickly. The Night Cream carries a higher load, a sealing texture and Vitamin A. There is no third step, because we do not have a third thing worth saying.
